Arizona Nursing Home Patient Rights
Prevent Nursing Home Abuse
Each nursing home patient has rights mandated by federal and state law. These include:

- The right to choose a physician.
- The right to be fully informed about the medical care and treatment he or she will receive.
- The right to meet with other patients to talk about the care provided at the nursing home.
- The right to voice grievances without discrimination or reprisals.
- The right to be free from physical restraints used for the conveniences of the staff and not used to treat the patient’s medical condition.
- The right to review and get copies of his or her medical records.
- The right to receive a list of patient rights.
In addition, all Arizona nursing homes receiving Medicare or State payments have responsibilities to their patients. These responsibilities include:
- Caring for their patients in a manner and in an environment that will promote and maintain the patient’s quality of life.
- Providing nursing and related services and rehabilitative services so the patient can attain and maintain the highest physical, mental, and psychological well-being.
- Meeting professional standards of quality in all services provided or arranged by the nursing home.
